Bipolar and Treatment

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

Bipolar is characterized by periods of deep, prolonged, and profound depressive periods of excessive increased irritable moods known as mania. People may also suffer with this disorder for a lifetime, even with treatments focusing on management of the symptoms with medication, religion and psychotherapy (APA, 2013).

Psychotherapy

The non-pharmacological treatment that this clinician would recommend would be Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This type of therapy is modified based on the needs of the client. CBT has the ability to change psychologic thought processes, redirect negative behaviors, and create positive emotions for the patient and family. The implementation process of CBT is based on pathophysiological and psychological disorders that results in the ability to function better over a period of therapeutic sessions (Meza, R. D., Jungbluth, N., Sedlar, G., Martin, P., Berliner, L., Wiltsey-Stirman, S., & Dorsey, S.,2020).

This clinician would implement therapeutic psychological treatments that addresses the patient problems and focuses on the wellbeing of all concerns that effect the patients thought processes.
